plain macaron shells
it was a long journey to make a macaron-like macaron....
after the third attempt, i was about to give up.
as i just can't make it right...
until my fifth attempt. :D
everytime throw the "macaron" away, i felt my heart pain...
i am sick of wasting money and especially food.
since jade, a bride-to-be, wants some macarons on her wedding day and i really want to overcome this challenge.
i started to do a wider research and to seek help from my friend, james.
if you want to give the macaron a go and don't want to experience the sadness of failure, here are some websites, i think you should have a look before you start :)
once you master the plain macaron shells, you can play with different flavours. i tell you when i first find out my macarons turned right, i was so happy. i jumped up and down i was like the world happiest person!!!! feel so GOOOD! i am serious. until you try, you will know ;) you gotta trust me :)
1. macaron chronicles v: a study of the sucre cuit method on kitchen musing, it talks about what leads to the failure of the macaron.
2. la macaronicité on syrup and tang, a series of articles talking about how to make perfect macarons, the history of macarons etc.
3. {french macarons :: my ‘how to’ } on mélanger, i actually follow this recipe and the tips are very helpful :)

Gingerbread Men
it's another last minute christmas preparation...
i am not good at choosing presents...
besides, i think receiving a homemade/handmade present would be happier.
at least, i would be happier :D
so i decided to make something for christmas presents. :D
as mentioned before, originally was thinking of making truffle, but then it's too messy to make in this hot whether... so i have to think of something else.
however, time is running out.
i don't have much time to do fancy stuff...
lucky, i read this recipe the other day.
so, i give a go to this lovely gingerbread man. :D
the first batch was in a rush, so it did not do very well and it was a bit soggy.. :(
(sorry, ling and nadyne... )
the second batch was much better.
crunchy and tasted better.
if you are like me, running out of time, you may try this for your christmas gift idea :D

how have i been?
making christmas cards and presents.
baking ever failed macarons.
i am totally exhausted.
while my day becomes very routine.
there is something special happened.
and it definitely put a smile on my face.
natto lost her first teeth!
it is totally awesome!
kofanna discovered she lost her tooth...
and while we were wondering where it would be.
kofanna found it in natto's feeding bowl!!!
haha...
as you can see, her teeth are very small.
look at her face...
absolutely CUTE! heh~
so we are trying to collect all her teeth.
though it is quite impossible, it would be great if we could :P

movie: no reservations (2007) and julie & julia (2009)
which make me want to cook and eat badly!!!
and these definitely arouse my eagerness to blog again!
so, what movies were they?
one was No Reservations (2007).
and the other was Julie & Julia (2009).
i did say before on my fb.
it's food that connects people!
i think it's really true hey~
even you can't cook, food, it's the best way to start a conversation with anyone.
"have you eaten?"
"what did you eat?"
"where to eat?"
"how's the food?"
food is just a natural ice breaker.
love it!
i can deeply feel the frustration that julie had when she failed to cook julia's recipe.
it's exactly same feeling when i failed to make the macarons!
ya, i guess, keep trying is the only way to perfect the dish.
sometimes i do feel the pain to throw the thing in the bin,
but it reminds me that if i did it right at the first time and put more efforts in it,
i know i will be success one day! :D
so my christmas holiday is planning to be a making macarons day or days.
(if i am lucky enough to make it right the next time)
haha..
will you support me??? heh~
anyway, i was so tempted to buy julia child's "mastering the art of french cooking" the other day at BigW.
but my wallet has to be on diet lately...
plus i have bought too many cookbooks these few weeks...
so i put it back on the shelf...
if you want to visit julie's blog about julie/ julia project, you might click here!
bon appétit~

Cheesy Chicken Chowder
if you don't know, now i tell you.
i am a soupaholic person.
so, whenever i found any soup recipes,
i will most likely cook it and enjoy it! heh~
found this recipe from sing for your supper.
and the host of this blog is a very nice person too.
not that i know her, but i emailed her regarding the recipe.
Hi Zoe,
Thanks so much for your kind comments!! I'm so glad you enjoy my blog!
Velveeta cheese is a processed cheese loaf - it melts very quickly and easily (probably because it's made with lots of milk). The best thing I can compare it to is American Cheese (have you heard of it?). If you can't find Velveeta, any kind of sharp cheese that melts well will be fine. Maybe a good cheddar or gruyere. I hope this helps you; please let me know how it turns out for you!
Amy
Sing For Your Supper
the feeling is like you are contacting with your idol... XD
ya, i know i am silly. but i am really happy that she replies me!!! heh~
anyway, since i m in an isolated place...
not like america where got everything, and i am so stingy to buy the expensive gruyere.
so i used a relatively cheaper option and bought the cheddar cheese.
mmm... it turned out, not too bad :D

Chocolate Truffles
initially, chocolate truffles are not on my list...
but it happened i got the double cream left from the macarons
and i found this recipe from taste.com.au that can use up all the left over cream.
so... why not??
simple ingredients, but definitely not easy to make.
especially making here in the sunshine state.
though i was lucky enough to have a rainny day to work on,
the weather was still a bit warm.
a pair of cool hands are essential, preferrably to have a cold hand.
you will know why when you actually work on it...
it can be quite sticky and to me, sticky is ok...
but don't wanna to waste the chocolate :(
anyway, the outcome is not too bad.
my housemate said it was yummy :D
i was thinking to make this for christmas presents.
however, christmas in summer seems doesn't help much for this delicious truffles.
so, i guess i need to think of something else... = =+

happy birthday to my dear sister :D
i still can't believe we are in our 30s... LOL
anyway, i wish you have a wonderful birthday!
wishing you have more ideas for your painting~
wishing you more people know your artworks~
heh~
God bless you :)

slacking no more
i have been so blessed to have you all around me.
it's hard to say.
but yes, i think it's time for me to stop slacking and wasting time.
2009 will be gone soon.
and i have been on this planet almost 30 years.
ya, i know, im turning 30 this year! :$
while i can still happily tell people that i am in my 20s, i am actually looking forward to my 30s. XD
the past 10 years...
i can't say it was not fabulous, but i believe it can be better.
having said that, the most wonderful thing happened to me for the past decade is the moment i received God and decided to follow him for the rest of my life.
making aussie to be my second home is one of the bravest things that i have never thought of.
leaving family and friends that i know since young, leaving the city that i grew up....
many of my friends asked how can i cope with this.
to be frank, i don't know how neither.
think it could be my family gene that we all are adventurers.
mmm... i guess my parents are braver than anyone in the family...
anyway, 20s will be gone soon.
i am so looking forward to another decade to start.
so, slacking no more.

Chocolate Macarons
at that time, i didn't know that what did i do wrong.
learning from my lesson, i read few blogs that i regularly visit to see how can i improve the macarons and i found out i used an incorrect ingredient... haha... = =+
silly me.
i used almond flakes instead of almond meal. XD
that's something totally different!!!
well, now that i learnt sharing the same word doesn't mean they can be subsituted!! LOL
ok. the recipe is mainly from Cannelle Et Vanille by Aran.
i also visit dailydelicious by Pook and Yochana's Cake Delight by Aunty Yochana to get a better idea for making macarons. :D
good research! heh~
so, i spent the whole afternoon in the kitchen yesterday,
and the macarons turned out... not too bad.
but still need to be improved.
here are the areas i want to fix.
1. how can i make the size of the cirlce more even?
2. how can i make the surface of the macarons more smooth?
if you know how, please kindly let me know.
thank you in advance. :)

i hate dragging things = waste of time.
i really hope that they do give us a valid decision until then.

having been cooking/ baking for a while.
but i still love to consume good food...
it's just i don't have much time to spend on this hobby.
maybe i need a better time management,
as there so much i want to do in my mind.
anyway, i have made this for long already.
it was a great success, as most of colleagues love that. :D

last day in september
yes, i know i am horrible in regards to updating blog and photos.
laziness has always been my no.1 enemy. heh~ :P
anyway, the two weeks in hong kong was absolutely awesome.
i made myself fully occupied with people and food.
ate and ate and ate until food baby grew into 5 months big.
what's worse, i ate until having diarrhea and high temperature two days just before my bestie's wedding... lucky, i recovered just in time :D
during these two weeks i was spoiled by everyone around me.
i love you guys. without you these two week could be deadly long.
you all made this trip full with joy.
specially thank to my elder sister and bro-in-law for being so nice to let me stay at your place. heh~ i knew i did give you two many troubles... but really enjoyed the time spending with you two.
wani and ken, the newly married couples are the other two that i have to say a big thank to.
you two are truly my best friends and food mates :D i enjoyed every meal and every conversation that we had!!! while you two were busy to arrange your wedding, you still spent time with me. this is just something that i can't express in words. i love you. i really do. :D
i was very home sick after i came back here.
but i think i am now ok :D haha... miss you all.
and i will see you all in less than 6 months. haha..
we can eat again!
need to save money in no time! :)
time flies.
today is the last day in september. three more months, 2009 will be end.
thank God for every moment that i had.
i am so blessed.
good nite and sweet dreams. xxx
The Last Day On Earth - Kate Miller-Heidke
Look up the stars are all exploding
It's the last day on earth
In my dreams
It's the end of the world
And you've come back to me
In my dreams
Between the dust and the debris
There's a light surrounding you and me
It's the last day on earth
In my dreams
It's the end of the world
And you've come back to me
In my dreams
I'm not afraid to sleep now, if we can stay like this until
It's the last day on earth
In my dreams
It's the end of the world
And you've come back to me
In my head I replay our conversations
Over and over til they feel like hallucinations
You know me? I love to lose my mind
And every time anybody speaks your name I still feel the same
I ache, I ache, I ache inside.

sad but nicely presented.

hello~ :D
i have not been updating for a while...
don't know i am busy or i am lazy...
anyway, this month i have been experiencing many things that i haven't been before.
and something that i don't even think of.
early this month, i was become one of the suspected case of swine flu.
without knowing i was having 39C temperature, i still went to work for half day, and still believing that i was ok, until i went to see doctor.
the doctor said i had a high chance that i had the human swine flu.
he passed me a leaflet stated the symptoms of this kind of flu.
well, it stated "symptoms are similar to normal flu and could include fever, cough, headache, muscle and joint pain, sore throat and runny nose"
OMG!!!!
i had all the symptoms... = =+....
so after the doctor, i went home and call everyone before i slept.
coz i was scared it could be my last call... LOL XD
no lah... not that silly, just told them i was ok.
what really worry me is can i still go back hong kong end of this month?
luckily, the temperature had gone that day...
anyway, i had to stay at home for few days before i can get back to work.
thought it was a good time to update my blog or doing something else...
and i finally know, being sick really needs lots of rest...
so, i got nothing done but i have completely recovered the following week. praise god :)
can't imagine if it happens this week...
tell you, i will cry like no tomorrow.... LOL
last week, was a very critical week for me and my future.
something big gonna be happened .
and now it is not a good time to share, but sure will do when the time is right :)
honestly, i am excited about it but at the same time i am a bit nervous.
no matter what, i know my heavenly father will provide me the best. :D
think have to stop here, as i actually have many things haven't done...
(like i need to line the clothes for my dearest housemate.. > . < haha... kofanna, so now you know i am what kind of people~~ LOL)
btw, i am leaving for hong kong in 2 days.
share more about the trips when i come back, or i will blog about it when i have time :)
love you all and don't miss me too much XD

The lost get found - Britt Nicole
and would like to share with you.
recently, two of my friends have problems in their relationship.
both of them are struggling to live "normally", and trying very hard to hide their true self.
seeing them suffering, i, as a friend, feel the pain.
though one of them is so good that listen to me and try to pray to god for her situation (hey, jon, i m like ink, hehe, she is not a christian! heh~). but i know she is still suffering.
i was talking to my elder sister, joey, the other day. we were talking about why many people become a christian after they have faced something "big" in their lives.
joey reckons people become christian after some bad experiences because they want to rely on the spiritual belief to forget their pain/ unhappiness.
honestly, i do not quite agree with this statement. however, at that moment, i can't think of any answer for that question. somehow, the answer suddenly come up when i was on the bus last week. (yes, the "suddenly" happened!)
i was thinking of the question and my reason to become a christian. in fact, i always know God is with me, coz He always sends His children to come close to me since i was young. but again, because of my family background and my own character, i kept closing the door to let him into my world, until the failure of my last relationship. that experience makes me realised that there are something that we are not able to cope with and we are not as strong as what we thought. besides, i also realised that with God, all things are possible. therefore, i think those people might have the same feeling as me.
last time, with the broken relationship, i thought i was not gonna make it, i thought my life will just only have black and white, i thought i will never be happy again... though i claimed myself as a christian, i didn't have the heart and i did not have much faith in Him. at that time, i was not devoted, i must say.
however, God has never forsaken me all these years. especially, when i was very upset last year. He showed me how wonderful my life is, how strong i am, how much love i will be received from my heavenly Father. people might doubt what i am saying, but i can confirm you, you will never understand only if you accept Him to your life.
before becoming a christian, i always question that why those people jump and dance like crazy when they worship? why they shout out "amen" so loud when they agree with the preacher said? why they cry while they are smiling?
i tell you, i have found the answer, as i do the same things too! LOL
i jump and dance when i worship, because i feel joyful to worship God, not because i am insane.
i say amen (i never shout out loud, as i am too shy to do that... hehe) because i truly believe in Him.
i cry while i am smiling, because i received a great love from my Lord, but at the same time i also feel the pain for what He has done for us to save our lives.
Hello my friend
I remember when you were
So alive with your wide eyes
Then the light that you had in your heart was stolen
Now you say that it ain't worth stayin'
You wanna run but you're hesitatin'
I'm talkin' to me
Don't let your lights go down
Don't let your fire burn out
'Cause somewhere, somebody needs a reason to believe
Why don't you rise up now?
Don't be afraid to stand out
That's how the lost get found
The lost get found
So when you get the chance
Are you gonna take it?
There's a really big world at your fingertips
And you know you have the chance to change it
There's a girl on the streets, she's cryin'
There's a man whose faith is dyin'
Love is calling you
Why do we go with the flow
Or take an easier road?
Why are we playin' it safe?
Love came to show us the way
Love is a chance we should take
I'm movin' out of the way
So when you get the chance
Are you gonna take it?
There's a really big world at your fingertips
And you know you have the chance to change it
[www.christian-lyrics.net]
my friends' situation plus this song does give me much inspiration.
to be frank, i am surprised that i write these out.
however, i have a strong feeling that God wants me to say what's in my mind.
if i stand out and spread His words, more people will be saved and they will not be lost anymore.
i also want them to have a different life like i do, because i love them and i want them to be happy and feel God's love and to be joyful as a God's child.
xoxo

Up-side Down Banana Cakes
i was really lazy the last whole week.
um... actually i was very tired from work.
thought i have never had stress, actually i was really stress!!!!
so back home, after dinner, i just lie on my bed.
this friday, the first friday nite shopping since last year!!
am i good? hehe~ coz cell was on wednesday this week, so i gotta had this chance to destress myself by shopping with kofanna. :D
i didn't spend a lot and i am really proud of myself! yay!
i bought my very first pair of ear rings in my life time. :D
i also bought an awesome cookbook for cakessss! yums
it shows many different techniques to make cakes.
anyway, all the above are jus a little update of myself.
and it is absolutely not related to the stated subject! ha~
this recipe was found in taste.com.au.
this was the cake that my younger brother hoped i will fail! LOL
he is the funniest brother in the world. at least i think so...
however, i let him disappointed!
coz i was a great success!!!! ♪♪
this cake needs to be served warm with cream or ice cream.
DO NOT have it when it's cold, as it is super duper hard... heh~

Minestrone Soup with Toasted Garlic Turkish Bread
according to ashleen, my colleague, this is a half minestrone.
why? coz there is no macaroni found in this recipe! haha...
well, to me, it doesn't really matter.
at the end of the day, that is jus the name of the dish.
and the most important thing is the taste of what i have cooked.
if you ask me how it tastes, i tell you action speaks louder than words.
haha... what it means? um... i had two big bowls of the soup plus half of the turkish bread.
and my tummy was so full until it was almost exploded.
think it's good enough to prove the taste of the soup~ heh~
it's up to you to say, ok? haha.
it will be cold for the next few days.
if you have heaps of vegies haven't finished in the fridge, think it's a good idea to cook this :D
coz it's also the reason why i cooked this. i have 10+ carrots in the fridge... and i am planning to cook the roasted pumpkin and carrot soup to finish the carrots. :P

Nasi Goreng
this name looks really difficult and seems difficult to make.
not that i am very good at south-east asia cuisine,
but it just happens that people around me >90% are from there.
so i have a good opportunity to know more :D
actually, nasi goreng is simply equal to indonesian fried rice.
i must say this is a very easy and budget meal.
why not trying this for your next meal? :P

an unwanted week
and that is something that i will never want to experience again.
as my emotion was really fluctuated!
the external factors at work plus the struggles in my mind made the situation worst.
i was almost screamed at someone who really drove me crazy.
i was kind of disappointed that i did not control my emotions well enough and my level of patience was just not up to god's standard...
however, i was lucky that i was in the youth event at church on friday nite.
the jumping, the worship and the kids really shaked all my stress and frustration off my head.
the worship was awesome.
god spoke to me, how my life changed compared to the past and how different i am compared to the past.
he confirmed me that my life will never be the same, as i have invited him to come into my life. no matter what, he will be there for me and guide me in life. i will never be afraid, and i never be alone. and i am always be his wonderful daughter.
thank god for rescuing me ♥
Pepper & Corn Pies
made these few weeks ago on mei's not very surprised birthday party.
so jon said everyone would bring one plate to share on that day, and i found an easy but nice recipe from kayotic kitchen. the combination of the traffice light colour, really attracts me to make and taste. :D
i highly recommend this blog to you. the pictures that she took and the easy-to-follow step by step recipe (with pictures), will never confuse you! and you can also know if you are following correctly by seeing the pictures!! how cool is that! :P
as for me, i think i did not do it quite successfully.
i think mainly because of the puff pastry.
i bought it for a while, so it did not rise properly, but at the time of baking i didn't realise this, so i thought the pastry is not cooked yet... as it didn't rise...
so i think i overcooked a bit and the vegie looked a bit dry... :(
but again, it still tasted good! wahahaha...
i think i always said the food i made tasted good!!! XD
don't know whether they all think the same way? heh~

Root Vegetables and Tofu Stewed in Miso Sauce
always love lotus root, and i found this wonderful recipe from just bento by makiko itoh.
this is my all time favourite japanese food blog.
it contains many ideas of how to make a beautiful bento which really makes me hungry!
(though i am hungry all the time~ wahahaha XD)
in this recipe, it suggested to be a miso sauce, since i am such a soupaholic person, i put more water to become root vegetable and tofu miso SOUP! haha~ yumsss~
and i think next time i will cut the taro a little bigger...
as it melted and made the soup very thick! haha
but it still tasted good! hehe

can't you tell?? haha :P
jus feel very good when i cook.
so hopefully this desire will not vanish~
okonomiyaki( お好み焼き), aka japanese pizza.
i bought this okonomiyaki mix the other day,
so tonite i tried it at home.
ichiban!!!!♥ hehe~
to be honest, i don't know what to put in the mixture...
so i took some ideas from 101 cookbooks plus the ingredients suggested in the packet.
i also don't know if the sauce works...
but it seems yummy! haha
easy to make, but just take a bit of time to cook :D
but every minutes spent is worth!! heh~

Soy & Ginger Baked Fish
ha! it's donna hay again!
you should know why :D
because i have no time to cook man! haha
just kidding, as for me, i want to make my dinner simple and easy to make,
and it happens i find this recipe from her book.
so i give it a go :D
baked fish and steamed fish is a bit differnt.
the colour and the texture is differnt.
quite a few time, i thought the fish is undercooked,
but when the suggested time is over, the fish is still look the same.
so i tried a piece and i found it's cooked!
haha very different.
and it tasted great!
however, i think next time i would put more sugar when marinading the fish.
coz i found it a bit salty. :D
the gai lan is well cooked too.
very crunchy! i love it! ♥

Apple Tarte Tatin
thanks for master chef australia.
we all are so into cooking now. haha~
at least, maria and i are...
so today, i tried this recipe that was shown in the pressure test.
actually, it is not that difficult that i thought.
so, i am pretty happy with the result :D
hehe...
like the chef said, the thing that most likely will go wrong is to caramelise the sugar.
quite a few time, i almost burnt the sugar! haha...
anyway, i like the taste and i am happy that my newly bought cast iron pan can be used in this recipe!!! yay :P

kian brissy trip 2009
this time she stayed longer than the last time (27 - 31 may).
and it was nice that SJ approved my annual leave,
otherwise, we didn't have much time to spend together.
and i was so blessed to have kofanna and simone to help me for this trip.
but to be honest, i think i am no longer to fit for nite life anymore.
lucky this weekend is a long weekend,
so i can have good rest :D
the following were what we had been doing
it's all about eat and relax ;P
lee korean barbecue
this was a new korean barbecue shop nearby.
and just discovered the owner was the one who used to have a korean restaurant next to myer center in the city!
i was so glad that she opened the restaurant again,
as their homemade kimchi was really nice!
the polish place
we were supposed to see the sunset at mt tamborine.
however, the weather was jus not so cooperative.
before we reached, it was a rain storm...
so we did make it to be there, but the sun was long gone behind the rain clouds :(
but there were always positive sides.
though it rained, the scenery after rain was still pretty :D
having afternoon there in the coffee shop was even awesome!
